The NCIP borrower check service looks up a user in your host ILS using their patron account ID. This service returns information to ReShare for storage on a request record.

The borrower check is performed when a new request is submitted either through the staff interface or through VuFind.

Requirements

The following requirements must be met for the borrower check to be used successfully.

You must configure your host LMS integration and local NCIP settings in the ReShare Settings app.
You must create a request with a valid user ID that can be used to match a user record in your host LMS.
1. If a request is created via a discovery tool, that tool must be configured to provide a valid ID to ReShare as part of the request submission process.
2. If you create a request manually from the staff tool, you must enter or scan a valid ID of the type used by your NCIP service.

Data

The borrower check service will supply the following data when making an NCIP request.

User ID: The value from the “User ID” field on the request.

The borrower check service will receive and store the following data from a success full lookup.

First name: This value will be stored in the “First name” field on the request record.
Last name: This value will be stored in the “Last name” field on the request record.
Email address: This value will be stored in the “Email address” field on the request record.

Note that the data supplied may vary in source by LMS. If the data being provided is not the value you wish to see, you will need to contact your LMS provider to see if it can be changed.

Lookup identifiers

Each LMS will define the identifier type that is used to perform a patron lookup. Some systems may only offer one option (typically a patron barcode), and others may allow you to configure the lookup by choosing from among several different identifier types (barcode, campus ID, email address, etc.).

You can work with your LMS provider to understand the options available to you and configure the system correctly.
